What’s the one item in your kitchen you can’t possibly cook without? A spice, your grandma’s measuring cup, instant ramen — what’s your magic ingredient, and why?
My special ingredient is Cumin or ‘Jeera‘ as it is popularly known in my country! The reason is since I belong to India which is famous for variety of spices, its really impossible to prepare anything, especially when you’re preparing a main-coarse, not to use cumin in any form – be it seeds or powder!
Its a must ingredient of an Indian kitchen. Whiff of burnt cumin seeds in the curd or ‘raita‘ as it is known here in India, adds sparkles to its taste. Likewise, a ‘dal fry‘ is incomplete without a tempering or ‘tadka‘ (as known commonly here) of asafoetida and cumin seeds burnt in desi ghee!
It has got some health benefits as well! Helps in proper digestion and high antioxidant contents to name few!
