Into The Wilds of Kerala

South India’s State of Kerala, where nature actually exists in its truest form! With greenery spread all over, tree covered green mountains, flowing sparkling rivers and chirping birds! A complete package for you to win your peace of mind again back to you!

Though all the places in Kerala are awesome and beautiful but am gonna recommend that you must visit Periyar National Wildlife Sanctuary. Its a national park and a Tiger Reserve. The beauty here is mesmerizing, trust me! Not only you will get to explore variety of vegetation but also you’re set to face the variety of animals and wildlife!

I was told by my guide that this sanctuary is spread over 777 square Kilometers! There is a beautiful man-made lake in the midst of this sanctuary which makes it look all the more picturesque. Tourists can enjoy the boating experience in this lake which is surrounded by dense forest.

Face-Off with the Wilds:

Though I didn’t get to meet the Tiger ( 😦 ) but spotted Elephants, Wild Cow, Bear. You may also spot Leopard, Deers and many more if you’re lucky!

Roaming Around:

The best option to explore the Sanctuary is to ride on an Elephant, which is also very famous option here! You may get trained Elephants easily to explore the Sanctuary, but there is one another fabulous option and that is a Motor Boat ride in the lake and I opted for the second one 😀 It was a mind-blowing experience trust me!

Nearby Places to explore:

There are some awesome places to visit around the Periyar Sanctuary which includes Krusoi Island (19 Kilometer) , Mankabla (10 Kilometer) All these places will give you an out of the world experience as if you are on the lap of Mother Nature!

Kerala is famous for its spices, so don’t forget to buy some!

Hope you like it!

Will keep you posted!

Life Alive and Unplugged

What is life? Ever wondered why we have come in this world? Is it with a special reason or a responsibility given to us?

Why do some of us fail to do even the simplest work or manage even the simplest relationships? A ll these questions cloud my mind whenever I look up in the sky to find out if He – The God is up there and looking at me? I don’t find him up-there but still I look up maybe someday I will get a glimpse of Him!

Our life is a box full of joy but only if we explore it right…moving in right direction, attaining peace within our own self because we won’t find this Peace outside in any worldly thing but within our own self! It is sitting and hiding inside Me and You…yes!

We need to find it…let’s find Peace by starting a journey within….by closing our eyes…sitting in a lonely place and not thinking anything at all…just let the thoughts flow in whichever direction they go…and you will find a glimpse of Peace a little feel of Peace…do it, you will surely feel it! I have done this and felt it!

Will keep you posted..

Hop, Nom and Shop in Kuala Lampur

Travel is the best way to learn! That’s why, it is important for we, the humans to keep traveling and exploring the God’s world. This time, I’m gonna make you land in Kuala Lampur and sharing some sneek-peek of KL! Top things to do in Kuala-Lampur in no particular order (as I liked 😉 )

Make Your Way To Pulau Carey For Sculptures and Spiritual Healing

South of Port Klang is Pulau Carey, a combination of oil palm plantations and orang asli outpost. The island is home to the indigenous Mah-Meri people, who are known for their intricate wood carvings of spirit animals, which are sometimes used for spiritual healing. Made from nyireh batu, a rare mangrove hardwood found on the island, the sculptures have been known to fetch pretty prices in the art world. For a different day out, drive over and seek out the wood carvers.

Neway CEO Karaoke Box

Neway Karaoke

A karaoke joint offering a mix of English, Mandarin and Canto-pop as well as J- and K-pop tunes, Neway is a good place if you like to karaoke in a clean, spacious environment with a good sound system. While it is quite pricey at RM56 (not including the RM15 tidbits fee), the buffet spread included in the fee fits the value. The buffet features fresh made-to-order sushi, desserts and even chocolate fondue among others. Visit the website for more info on daily rates and happy hours.

Kuala Lumpur Petronas Towers

Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers © Kelly Opgenoort

The number one building/attraction that will never cease to amaze me is the Petronas Twin Towers. This skyscraper is visited by millions, loved by all and is like no other building in Kuala Lumpur. No visit to the city is complete without a picture of you standing in front of the twin towers and afterwards enjoying the adjoining park and shopping center. The sun sets around 7pm in Kuala Lumpur so be sure to visit during the afternoon.

For a traveler who wishes to see the view from up high, buy a ticket to the observation deck which is located on the 86th floor or walk from one tower to the other by using the world’s highest double-decked sky bridge. Make sure that you show up early as ticket sales will start at 8.30am and are quite limited, or alternatively book online.

Batu Caves

This Hindu temple and shrine is well known in Kuala Lumpur. Located about 10 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur this attraction is known for its giant golden statue and numerous stair steps that need to be taken to reach the top. Batu Caves can be easily reached by train or bus which can be taken from KL Central. The busiest day is during the Thaipusam festival when around nearly one million pilgrims visit this site for religious and festival purposes. The 272 steps provide you a great work out while enjoying the view, however be careful of the monkeys as they are very cheeky here.

The best food in town – Marini’s on 57

This restaurant is one of the hottest restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Marini’s is divided into a lounge/bar section on one side and the restaurant on the other side. The food is absolutely incredible and a reservation is needed as this venue is in high demand with the locals. Marini’s has a spectacular view of the twin towers which can be enjoyed while sipping on one of their signature cocktails. A dress code is required so do make sure that you are appropriately dressed for Malaysia’s highest roof top bar. Tip: make dinner reservations during a time that ensures a sunset view from the restaurant.

From the massive malls that line Bukit Bintang to the backstreet stalls of Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur is a shopaholic’s dream.

But if you’re in town for only a few days, deciding where to start can be rough. But you must check-out The Curve – It might be located way out in west KL, but The Curve beats many of its competitors with its indoor/outdoor layout, range of al fresco dining and pedestrianized walkways. Next is Petaling Street Market, a must visit market! Here you’ll find a variety of tourist trinkets, T-shirts, electronics and DVDs. Eating on plastic stools next to crates full of squawking chickens, it’s a good pit stop before heading back to to the maelstrom for more haggling over bargain goods. Adding up charm to KL’s shopping arena is The Central Market!

The interior is split into themed areas representing the country’s diverse population, which include Lorong Melaya, where shops sell Malay handicraft; a replica of Malacca’s Jonkers Street; and Little India.

The adjoining Kasturi Walk features an array of food stalls; the Annexe Gallery is a center of contemporary arts.

Eating Out

Ramly Burger

For food lovers, there are variety of options available in KL, all one needs to do is NOM! This, is the burger. Do you really need me to elaborate on the Ramly burger? Eat, as many, as you can. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone!

Have Breakfast at Yut Kee, the oldest (& most popular) Hainanese coffee shop in KL

Best Breakfast in KL

If you ever find yourself having breakfast at Yut Kee, please do everyone a favor and order the Roti Babi. It is a sandwich made from white bread and stuffed with shredded pork, onions, and crabmeat; dipped in egg and deep fried. (though I am a pure vegetarian, this advise is for my non-veg lover friends!)

The Chettinad Banana Leaf Rice Experience

Chettinad Cuisine Banana Leaf Rice

It’s quite an experience to step inside Vishal for the Chettinad banana leaf rice. They have a system where diners sit along the table on one side, while the staff serve from the other side. Order as much as you want, and finish off the rice with a glass of mango lassi.

Fraser’s Hill

Fraser's Hill, Malaysia © Kelly Opgenoort

Fraser’s Hill is located about two hours away from Kuala Lumpur in the state of Selangor but is definitely worth the visit. In this beautiful nature reserve you can see the stunning views, visit the waterfall and look around the traditional village. Enthusiasts of cycling go here as this is a very demanding road and will require the fullest physical effort from your body. The waterfall which can be found here is a true joy and an obvious moment for a picture. The water will be freezing but once you have got over the initial dip, you will certainly enjoy it to its fullest.

Chocolate at Dip and Dip

Be prepared for a chocolate overdose when going to Dip and Dip. This dessert restaurant offers dishes that are packed with the most delicious chocolate you will ever taste. This is a typical dessert shop where you should not think about your diet at ALL as the calories will come flying to you via numerous dishes. My favourite sugary delight is the chocolate waffle with fruits. No matter when you visit it will be busy, as now many people have discovered this finger licking good restaurant.

KL Bird Park and Butterfly Park

Both parks offer a lot of fun no matter what age you are. The KL Bird Park and Butterfly Park are in closed vicinity of each other and as a day trip this will offer you a great experience. The birds in the bird park are very used to visitors so if you buy some food they will love to sit on your shoulder and pose for a picture. In the butterfly park you can walk through the garden while butterflies will fly all around you. These parks will make you relax in a city that is bustling with traffic.

So guys, I hope you’ll enjoy this post ! 🙂

Will keep you posted!!

Till then…be safe and don’t forget to be awesome!

Cumin Groovin

What’s the one item in your kitchen you can’t possibly cook without? A spice, your grandma’s measuring cup, instant ramen — what’s your magic ingredient, and why?

My special ingredient is Cumin or ‘Jeera‘ as it is popularly known in my country! The reason is since I belong to India which is famous for variety of spices, its really impossible to prepare anything, especially when you’re preparing a main-coarse, not to use cumin in any form – be it seeds or powder!

Its a must ingredient of an Indian kitchen. Whiff of burnt cumin seeds in the curd or ‘raita‘ as it is known here in India, adds sparkles to its taste. Likewise, a ‘dal fry‘ is incomplete without a tempering or  ‘tadka‘ (as known commonly here) of asafoetida and cumin seeds burnt in desi ghee!

It has got some health benefits as well! Helps in proper digestion and high antioxidant contents to name few!

Dear Little Bob and the Afternoon Mystery

As I was sitting in my garden taking a nap, my mailbox had a thud sound! Bob, my dog got up suddenly and ran towards it. I too got up and opened the mailbox and found a bundle of letters written “surprise” on them with ink. The sender was some Bluejay…I never heard this name before, I spoke this to myself.

I went back to my chair and started opening the letters one by one…I was about to read those but my aunt appeared on the main gate with a plate full of sweets in one hand and a syrup in her bag as she needs it every now and then. I welcomed her and showed those unknown letters to her and she burst out with a laugh and said, O dear ! This is my prank for you! Don’t worry…I looked at Bob and Bob looked at me…as if we both were telling each other that what a useless prank that was!
